Angel Feathers? Are they kidding?

[Update: this link is not appearing on the referenced website any longer so you might have to search. This post was added in 2008 so it’s been a long time and it was moved from the original URL.]

Sometimes I think people have lost all their reasoning.  Sid Roth has this “pastor” on his show (David Jones) and he shows some “angel feathers”  and “gems” that he says fell from heaven.  Seriously.  I’m not kidding. They look like carnival trinkets and feathers that fell out of a cheap pillow.

I’m dumbfounded. How is it that believers have lost their discernment?  They’ve lost their way, ignoring the importance of reading God’s word and holding to sound doctrine.  Don’t get me wrong, I love miracles; I believe in miracles, not spectacles.  I’ll post more but just wanted you to see this.

Sid Roth’s video (short url for space):
You can actually see the “angel feathers” and “gems” about 2/3’s through the video!  What fun!

Sid Roth’s David Jones interview

The intro to David Jones says:

“In his meetings, there are supernatural manifestations of angelic feathers, gold dust, appearances of precious gemstones and physical healing. All this happened when he learned the key to unlock God’s heart and favor.”

Oh, he’s selling his book too.

Feathers? Sorry, I don’t buy this at all. Gems? Nope. Seriously, those look like carnival prizes.
Take those feathers to a lab and see if they are organic or synthetic.  I’d like to see what the DNA report says. Perhaps “Made In China”.

David misquotes scripture when he tries to make a point that it’s dangerous to question him when he gives the example of a co-worker angering him, when he says to the co-worker: “it’s better that a millstone be tied about your neck and cast into the depths of the sea than to mess with one of God’s little ones”

Why did he misquote Matthew 18:6?  Is “messing with one of His children” a veiled warning that nobody should question this story?  It’s our duty to do so.

Matthew 18:6
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Why should we challenge this?

1 John 4:1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Claims of angel feathers and gems must be tested and proven. There is no fear in testing the spirits to see whether they are from God.  It’s a mandate that we should be wary of false prophets and lying wonders.

Let’s see them prove it.  Validate the evidence with real science and a peer review report.

In the meantime, let God be the judge. Keep in the word of God.  Endure sound doctrine and do not be led astray.

I really liked listening to David.  He seems like a nice guy.  I just wonder who is planting this stuff and fooling him.

  1. I happen to know David Jones. I questioned it myself until I preached in his church .It is real, whether you believe it or not. I also personally know Sid Roth as well. He is a wondeful man of God. now Todd Bentlry, that’s another story. I believe he’s deceived and in total error. I did not agree with Sid interviweing him, but that’s none of my business. ?We should pray for those that we know are in error.People like Todd Bentley I believe are into new age and do not preach the true gospel. Truth is living a crucified life with Christ Jesus an having an intimate walk with him daily. I don’t think we need to chase manifestations. I believe in the supernatural but am cautious as well. But thers two men I know well and love them both.

  2. Kurt, I really liked David’s testimony and thought he was sincere. However, when the feathers and “gems” started he lost credibility. This isn’t a manifestation of the Holy Spirit in my opinion. I want to know why those feathers haven’t been rushed to a laboratory to find out what the origin is.

Additionally, the “gems” must go through the same process to be considered authentic gems. Fakes abound and if you buy this without such testing your belief in either of these people is without wisdom.

The respect for the character of David and Sid are in jeopardy if these are not tested. It is in their best interests to get this done as soon as possible.

The potential for someone to plant these needs to be eliminated. Feathers, gems and gold dust are old tricks by hucksters and without saying that David and Sid are doing it, there could be others involved.

If you know David and Sid, then tell them to get it done. With a REPUTABLE laboratory.

  3. Kurt please explain your comments regarding TOD BENTLEY. I would like to know what is “new age” and not “true gospel” regarding the blessings and healings that people are experiencing.

  4. To the author of the above article “angel feathers” I propose this question: Why would Sid Roth risk his reputation, and subject his television and radio broadcast to discredit, if David Jones could not prove his claims?

  5. Michele,

I propose rather to ask this question… Why DID he risk his reputation and subject his television and radio broadcast to discredit?

If he will not take up this challenge to have this material tested, then he is not obedient to the word of God which tells us to test the spirits. 1 John 4:1

We have an uncommonly excellent opportunity to “test the spirits” as we have physical evidence to test. The only reason to be reluctant to subject them to testing is that they were picked up in a dime store (now a dollar store). The feathers are the most important to test as the gems are not living organisms and could be purchased. The feathers are either organic or synthetic. They would not be possible to fake, and the DNA or chemical analysis would show the origin.

C’mon, you know your argument is weak. Sid is a likable guy, but because he says these are from heaven you believe it? This is a matter of great consequence it must be tested to be believed. His program exists on sensationalism not necessarily truth.

Let’s not buy fraud people. Test it.

  6. I saw this on TV and instantly thought it was fraudulent. Just a couple days prior I had lectured someone on humility. At the end of the show there was a book on humility for sale, and the address was in Brunswick, Georgia – where I live! I will be seeking out Mr. Roth now. I will investigate this for myself. At that point I will report back.

  7. Even if these feathers were shown to be organic would it be possible to tell the source. Why bother trying to identify their sourse as any bible believing Christian knows they are simply extra biblical, lying signs and wonders. These people would disappear into the dust if foolish scripturally illiterate people stopped following them and withdrew their financial support. The “seed your need'” garbage keeps them in business. If their funds dried up they could try selling their feathers and gems on ebay, but they would have to verify their value first or maybe face fraud charges.
Kurt: when did you discover that Todd Bentley was a total fraud, before or after he was exposed?!!

    1. I knew before he was exposed that he wasn’t right. As a Prophet of the Lord Jesus Christ, I see things and know of Some things in advance. But that’s only as God shows me. Only God knows all things. I tried to warn some about this socalled revival. But I was being devisive. Ok.
I know people are gullible and want to see the supernatural. But we must have discernment.

  8. Thank you for using discernment!

First let’s look at what an angel is….

ANGELS ARE BEINGS CREATED FOR GOD’S PURPOSES.
The conception and birth of Jesus Christ are supernatural events beyond human logic or reasoning. Because of this, God sent angels to help certain people understand the significance of what was happening (see Matthew 2:13, 19; Luke 1:11, 26; 2:9).
Angels are spiritual beings created by God who help carry out his work on earth. They bring God’s messages to people (Luke 1:26), protect God’s people (Daniel 6:22), offer encouragement (Genesis 16:7ff.), give guidance (Exodus 14:19), carry out punishment (2 Samuel 24:15-17), patrol the earth (Zechariah 1:9-14), and fight the forces of evil (2 Kings 6:16-18; Revelation 20:1-2). There are both good and bad angels (Revelation 12:7), but because bad angels are allied with the devil, or Satan, they have considerably less power and authority than good angels. Eventually the main role of angels will be to offer continuous praise to God (Revelation 7:11-12).
    BIBLE READING: Luke 1:5-20
KEY BIBLE VERSE: Then the angel said, “I am Gabriel! I stand in the very presence of God. It was he who sent me to bring you this good news!” (Luke 1:19)

My favorite description is in Hebrews…
    American Standard Version
Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to do service for the sake of them that shall inherit salvation?

If they are ministering sprits then a spirit does not have flesh and blood like you see we have. Luke 24:39 – See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Let us be careful not to step in the traps laid for us by the enemy. The only way we can know truth is if we study. And BOY, is there a lot to study. =)
